Week 51 of 52 in 2020

Jackson:  He was long overdue for a haircut and we were able to sneak one in and get home before the snow started to wreak havoc on the roads.

Jackson and Connor:  There didn’t seem to be that much snow to have that much fun but that’s the best part of being 10 going on 11. It lasted long enough for the boys and their friends to get multiple hours in the snow with a bunch of different friends from the Forge.

Michael is 50

Over the past couple of months, we had been working on a project for Michael’s birthday.  It included reaching out to friends and family (at times asking more than once) for photos and a video message.

It definitely wasn’t how we expected to celebrate our 50 year old but the slideshow will last forever.  We did get him some other gifts.

Here he is watching the video.  There were smiles, laughs and some tears. THANK you to everybody who took the time to take the trip down memory lane and provide phots and a video to celebrate our 50 year old!

Love Lives Here

We’ve had several friends give rave reviews about the lights on the other side of the Forge that were put up by one neighbor to let another know that they were not alone.  After checking in with Davis, we started our walk on what turned out to be a wonderful night exploring our neighborhood.  It was definitely clear that LOVE does live here and that these families really wanted to put up a display of just that. Some people were driving through but walking was definitely the way to go.

The best part of the Forge is running into friends on the way.

Week 50 of 52 in 2020

Jackson:  Love to get these glimpses of him during the day with virtual learning. We know it’s not their favorite but they are getting more and more comfortable. Not always sure what they are accessing on those devices but that’s another fight for another day.

Connor:  Due to some hygiene issues, Connor was back in the seat a Kids First Dentistry. We are so thankful that they are able to get us in to address these issues.

Family: After several delays, it was finally time to decorate our tree after cleaning up some needles.  Starting to wonder how long our Douglas Fir was going to last.  Also, we’ve all learned to just let Michael take control after having too many of our placed ornaments be questioned on its location.  It makes him happy so we just let him enjoy it.  He does let the boys get the low ones…

Week 49 of 52 in 2020

Family: It was beyond time to get rid of the furniture factory that was existing in our attic.  We had bought the conversion kits to turn the boys cribs into full sized beds and without a move, which we aren’t planning, we definitely didn’t have enough room to keep housing furniture we didn’t need.  Goodbye furniture factory in the attic.

Now that Thanksgiving had passed, we were able to get a tree (Michael’s only rule regarding holidays).  We ventured out to Winterfarm on Saturday and found a Douglas Fir.  This was after much more time than the boys had wanted to spend but it was a mild day for early December. Trying to find the perfect tree takes longer and longer each year. Our preference is a blue spruce but they weren’t that good, which is why it took so long. The staff at Winterfarm did the actual cutting of the tree. Michael was happy to delegate that task.

Week 48 of 52 in 2020

Jackson - He won the election and is now serving as President of the SGA for Rodgers Forge Elementary School.  Here he is in action for his first virtual meeting.  And, dad helped our news crew reporter with another segment on catching a football.

Connor -  Connor won his race and is the recording secretary of the SGA for Rodgers Forge Elementary School.

Due to Covid restriction we opted to stay home and make a turkey and of course sweet potato pies. The boys helped contribute making dinner.  We will manage eating both pies without any help despite missing our family.

Exploring Gettysburg

It was what we thought to be mild Saturday in November and with our history obsessed Jackson, we decided to take a trip up to Jackson to explore all that Gettysburg had to offer.

We arrived around lunchtime and despite the burgers being delicious, it was so cold outside and there were complaints before we even arrived to the visitor center.  Despite the rumblings, we continued and linked up to the audio tour and had a lovely drive through the battlefields in Gettysburg learning more about the Civil War than Connor and I ever need and I took a history class all about the Civil War in college.

We didn’t make it all the way to the end of the audio tour (super close) but were met with a beautiful sunset and decided to consider it a victory and maybe the boys will listen to mom when making decisions on how to get dressed in late November.
