Star Wars Jammies for the Win

It was finally cold enough for the boys to be able to wear long pajamas.  And,  it wouldn't be fitting for our Star Wars loving boys to reach for anything other than R2D2 and Yoda.  We recently discovered how amazing that  the Hanna Andersson pajamas are and that they do Star Wars along with the Peanuts gang. It's a total win win.

There is nothing better than freshly showered boys and adorable pajamas.  And, it will probably be 20 degrees warmer in a day or two so they'll be back in to the short johns.

Apple picking at Larriland

Michael had to go in to work and the boys and I decided that Fall Festivals aren't really his thing so we decided that it was the perfect day to pick apples at Larriland Farms. Upon arriving, we were happy to see that they had  jonagold, which would be good for eating and baking an apple crisp and red delicious for Connor.

We have been picking apples the last couple of years and each time it is just as exciting.  The boys grabbed their bags and led the way by following the signs to the red delicious.  Jackson isn't as big of a fan of apples as Connor is.  Connor and I were able to indulge in some apple immediately after picking.

Even though he doesn't eat the apples as much as Connor and I, Jackson was happy to help pick.  If he is going to eat apples, he does like the tart ones so the joanagold were going to be good for him. Unfortunately, it wasn't time to pick the granny smith apples yet. We discuss the possibilities of coming back when the granny smith apples are in season.

After apple picking, we checked out the surrounding grounds.  Larriland was very organized compared to Baugher's.  It wasn't overly crowded, you didn't need to wait in a long line to get to the apples and in the same long line to get back to the starting point AND all the animals were penned, which is a big thing for Connor after he was chased by an alpaca at Baughers.

The boys and I found a table by the pond and shared some apple fritter donuts and lemonades, both of which were delicious.  After the snack, we checked in on the animals before we left.

We can definitely see future trips to Larriland for apple picking.

Orioles v. Red Sox : Goodbye Papi

At the begging of the boys' summer break, we had decided to let Connor pick a couple of Orioles games to go to and we were all looking forward to the Red Sox game despite it being during the week. We had been following the #WinDanceRepeat as well of keeping track of the Orioles.  Also, once it became clear that David Ortiz was going to retire, it was going to be an experience to remember.

We arrived at the stadium and headed up to our seats.

Jackson has taken to all things patriotic.  He is asking questions about presidential history and made sure that everyone was standing in observation of the National Anthem.  It's amazing to think how excited he will be to see the Hall of Presidents in Disney next month.

The sky was absolutely beautiful as the sun was starting to set.

One of the biggest draws was letting the boys get to see David Ortiz for their first and our last time. Michael and I have seen him play numerous games at Camden Yards and at Fenway Park.  Once the Orioles are out of the playoffs, we can all cheer for them.

It was hard to listen to the Orioles fans boo him.   We had to explain to the boys that you don't behave that way if you are a fan of the game and that he is a great player. We added that sometimes people aren't able to accept that.  Heavy thoughts for our 6 year olds.

Big Papi hit a 3 run home run securing a Red Sox 5-2 victory and extending their lead in the AL East.

The other storyline of the night was Trent Mancini, who had been just called up by the Orioles and hit his first career hit, a homerun.

David Ortiz's home run put the Red Sox up and we were able to catch the Ski Jump of #WinDanceRepeat and despite my Orioles fans not being happy about the loss, they did enjoy the outfielders dancing.

It may be the home of the Orioles but David Ortiz put on a show.  During the game, Connor asked if I was more of a Red Sox fan or an Oriole fan as he noticed me cheering on David Ortiz. My response was that I am a fan of the game and that at that moment, I was a David Ortiz fan.

MD Zoo in Baltimore : September 12, 2016

The boys had a scheduled day off school and we decided to go to the zoo.

We quickly passed by the penguins and decided to take some time looking for the hornbills.  The hornbills were initially hiding so it took awhile to find them but when we did, they were very active with a piece of wood.  We stayed watching them longer than we ever have.

As always, we take a couple of pictures of the flamingos and share them with Michael. The reflection of the penguins in the second picture is perfection.

After the flamingos, we were off to see the chimpanzees.  Since it has been working better to get there earlier, we've changed up our typical routine.

It was the right decision as we found enrichment going on with the buckets and lots of active chimps that were climbing,  grooming and playful with each other and in the tunnel and on the ropes.

The keepers stopped by and let us know that once the chimpanzees started banging on these containers, there would be a lot of displaying.  And almost on cue, the chimps became very vocal and active.  There was a larger crowd forming by this point and we walked away as the displays started happening.

The lemurs were inside and not very active so we moved on to the okapi.  I still remember how obsessed the boys were with the okapi when the zebras were never out on repeated visits years ago. The okapi was very active.

The kudu baby is finally out.  It will be exciting to watch the baby grow with his family.

We opted not to check in with the polar bears in favor of the Children's Zoo and we are so happy that we did as the otter was actually visible and swimming around.  It was great.  We spend a lot of time looking in hoping to get a glimpse and not only did we get a glimpse, there was actual activity.  It was a great day at the zoo.
