Orioles v. Red Sox : Goodbye Papi

At the begging of the boys' summer break, we had decided to let Connor pick a couple of Orioles games to go to and we were all looking forward to the Red Sox game despite it being during the week. We had been following the #WinDanceRepeat as well of keeping track of the Orioles.  Also, once it became clear that David Ortiz was going to retire, it was going to be an experience to remember.

We arrived at the stadium and headed up to our seats.

Jackson has taken to all things patriotic.  He is asking questions about presidential history and made sure that everyone was standing in observation of the National Anthem.  It's amazing to think how excited he will be to see the Hall of Presidents in Disney next month.

The sky was absolutely beautiful as the sun was starting to set.

One of the biggest draws was letting the boys get to see David Ortiz for their first and our last time. Michael and I have seen him play numerous games at Camden Yards and at Fenway Park.  Once the Orioles are out of the playoffs, we can all cheer for them.

It was hard to listen to the Orioles fans boo him.   We had to explain to the boys that you don't behave that way if you are a fan of the game and that he is a great player. We added that sometimes people aren't able to accept that.  Heavy thoughts for our 6 year olds.

Big Papi hit a 3 run home run securing a Red Sox 5-2 victory and extending their lead in the AL East.

The other storyline of the night was Trent Mancini, who had been just called up by the Orioles and hit his first career hit, a homerun.

David Ortiz's home run put the Red Sox up and we were able to catch the Ski Jump of #WinDanceRepeat and despite my Orioles fans not being happy about the loss, they did enjoy the outfielders dancing.

It may be the home of the Orioles but David Ortiz put on a show.  During the game, Connor asked if I was more of a Red Sox fan or an Oriole fan as he noticed me cheering on David Ortiz. My response was that I am a fan of the game and that at that moment, I was a David Ortiz fan.
